  13. A 71-year-old winner and lots of wasps - stories of the first roundpublished at 19:57 GMT 21 December 2025

    Paul LimImage source, PA Media

We're into the second round now and the first certainly delivered drama.

We had 71-year-old Paul Lim becoming the tournament's oldest ever match winner and historic wins for players such as Kenyan David Munyua, Indian Nitin Kumar and Switzerland's Stefan Bellmont, who plays Damon Heta in tonight's final match.

Then there was Cameron Menzies apologising for punching a drinks table after being eliminated by rising English star Charlie Manby.

And those wasps, which have taken centre stage quite often at Alexandra Palace. Jurjen van der Velde resorted to bug spray to try to combat them - to little effect.

The German 13th seed has been pushed hard by the Irishman but has edged clear.

  15. Who are the tournament's previous winners?published at 19:52 GMT 21 December 2025

Phil Taylor is the most successful player in the history of the PDC World Darts Championship, winning 14 of his 16 world titles between 1995 and 2013.

His previous two titles came before a group of leading players broke away from the British Darts Organisation to form their own governing body, now known as the PDC, in 1993.

The past five years have produced five different world champions, with English trio Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael Smith winning the past three.

Littler and Humphries will hope to join the exclusive club of players to have won multiple PDC world titles, with only six managing to achieve that feat so far.

There was controversy following the afternoon session, with Joe Cullen saying that opponent Mensur Suljovic's slow style of play is akin to cheating after the 32nd seed was knocked out of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Austrian Suljovic denied using any specific tactics in his second-round success.

"I never ever do this as a provocation," said the 53-year-old. "I do it only for my game. Sorry Joe, I never do this - love you man."

England's Cullen won the first set, but became the 11th seed to crash out as he lost the following three, including throwing away a 2-1 lead in the fourth set.

Referring to the way that Suljovic slowed down play, Cullen said in a post on X: "If that's darts, I don't want no part of it."
