The BBC Philharmonic performs Sibelius, Reger, Ives and Antheil
John Storgårds conducts today’s concert, a captivating programme that includes Sibelius, Reger, Ives and Antheil, with baritone and BBC New Generation Artist Benjamin Appl.
Sibelius’s The Tempest- Overture, written as incidental music for Shakespeare's play gets things off to an invigorating start.
Then, BBC New Generation Artist, Benjamin Appl, joins the orchestra to perform Hymnus die Liebe by Reger.
At the centre of the concert is The Unanswered Question- one of Charles Ives best known pieces.
The concert concludes with Antheil’s Symphony no.4, "1942"- a moving piece that reflects wartime anxieties.
