It's been one hell of a week.
It started with Green Man Festival in Glanusk, middled with H Hawkline and Sex Hands in Manchester, and ended with The Joy Formidable at Reading Festival.
My eyes look like a shrew's. My ears feel shot to death. I smell of doughnut stalls and portaloos. But it has been incredible. Not all of it, of course... but the highs have been dizzying, the lows merely peripheral.
Somewhere betwixt and between the paper cups, the open air sounds, the rain and the sound of strangers beyond my tent flaps, I made a half good radio show. In it you will find Carwyn Colorama (not his real surname, of course) talking about their stallion of a new album, Good Music. Carwyn also threads together a wonderful mix tape of sounds past, present and future that have been turning him on. Like I said, 'stallion'.
Huw 'Pooh' Williams (he was the singer in the Pooh Sticks, for the uninitiated. This isn't a nickname he earnt himself after an unfortunate incident on a long train journey after a careless vindaloo) talks about The Oppressed, south Wales' anti-racist Oi! group.
Lara Catrin translates some Memory Clinic. Can't remember which one, though. Oh, ha ha!
Ben Hayes plays a record of such epic, smouldering, intimate grandeur that the stars will weep a bit - sentimental sausages that they are.
I try and hold myself together with a voice that sounds like Count Basie doing bear impersonations. But it's all worth while.
