Somersaulting into Strictly… it’s Claudia Fragapane!

Fresh from the Rio Olympics, the eleventh Strictly celebrity to be announced is Gymnast Claudia Fragapane.

Claudia sprung into the limelight in 2014 after making history winning four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She also won three successive silvers at the European Championships. Such success on the podium translated into a Young Sports Personality of the Year win.

Having competed for Team GB at the Olympic Games in Rio this year, Claudia is now preparing to bring her superhuman sense of rhythm to the Strictly dance floor: “I always watched it when Louis Smith was on. I love the different styles of dancing and the costumes.”

Nicknamed the Pocket Rocket, this pint-sized Gymnast is no stranger to honest feedback, so the Strictly Judges should pose no problem: “Some are harsher critics than others but I take criticism well.”

While Gymnastics competitions mean Claudia is already well acquainted with spandex and sparkle, the Strictly wardrobe is still an exciting prospect: “I love costumes that stand out. Lots of sparkles!”

 With competition a key part of her sport, Claudia revealed she is “obviously competitive” in her gymnastics, but doesn’t see herself in the Strictly final: “I just want to go there, enjoy it and challenge myself.”

When asked about the dance she is most looking forward to, Claudia thinks she’ll enjoy the faster dances and is eager to get her Salsa on.
