Fans of BBC Introducing will be interested to know that Lisbon are the latest act to bag a coveted spot on the Radio 1 playlist with their track B L U E L O V E. If you find yourself tuning into Gemma Cairney, Fearne Cotton, Greg James or Scott Mills during the daytime this week, it’s likely you might catch Lisbon. But for now, you can listen below.
Hometown: Matthew Varty, Joe Atkinson, Gaz Turkington and Alex Wright, better known as Lisbon, hail from the coastal town of Whitley Bay near Newcastle.
Style: It’s hardly surprising that Lisbon have been compared to the likes of Foals and The 1975 – it is their indie pop flavour, unforgettable guitar riffs and upbeat rhythms that will entice future fans. With captivating choruses and songs packed to the brim with energy, just like B L U E L O V E, you can expect to hear the sounds of Lisbon at some major UK festivals in 2014.
You need to know: Lisbon have certainly been networking across the music industry having already supported fellow BBC Introducing artist Coasts on a recent tour, as well as Pixel Fix and Gallery Circus.
Supported by: Lisbon have been championed by their local BBC station on the BBC Introducing in the North East programme since the start of 2014. Ally McCrae is also a fan and described B L U E L O V E as ‘One irresistible piece of shout a long indie pop, bloody lovely.’
