This week Niamh Hegarty joined Rigsy and Stu to talk new music including:

Fierce Mild - Ann Lovett’s Letters

Niamh:
“Well since I caught them live earlier this year, they’ve just gone from strength to strength – they’ve been getting some incredible reviews…They remind me of some of my favourite bands and just no doubt we’ll be hearing a lot more from them in 2016.”

Otherkin – Feel

Niamh:
“They remind me a bit of The Strokes and this is from their 201 EP which is out now.”

Not Today - The Get Go

Stuart:
“That is a band from Omagh…from their debut EP which is out on October 30th and celebrated with a gig in the legendary ‘Top of the Town’ in Omagh. I just like that – it reminds me of Dinosaur Jr. and Teenage Fanclub and it’s got that slightly nonchalant slackery, grungy, twisted guitar sound and they do it with great passion.”

Soak – B A Nobody

Rigsy:
“We’re just absolutely chuffed to bits to see Soak - that’s a big deal for her to be nominated on that shortlist of twelve (for the Mercury Prize)…She must be…one of the youngest nominees for a soloist…in the Mercury Music Prize history.”

Niamh: “I think whether or not you win it – it’s amazing to be nominated and for Soak – a nineteen year old musician to be nominated is a huge deal. And I think I remember seeing a few mixed reviews when that album came out – so I think it’s incredible that the album has triumphed over those. And The Aphex Twin album is incredible as well…I think you know the Aphex Twin album does stand a chance to win as well.”

Owensie - Dramamine

Niamh: “From the forthcoming third album ‘Dramamine’ out November 13th …I just think it’s absolutely gorgeous…this track actually features Conor from Villagers – he’s on drums and backing vocals.”

All Of Your Ruins - Fall

Rigsy:
“So a three piece from Belfast and Carryduff – Jamesy, Ryan and Nathan…produced by the legendary Neil Calderwood just a couple of weeks back, so it’s super fresh…Big punchy sound, plenty of ambition as well – very promising stuff.”

The Altered Hours - Way Of Sorrow

Niamh:
“They recently supported Girl Band at their sold out…Pavillion show in Cork and just kind of blew everyone’s minds a bit I think. This is from the forthcoming ‘In Heat Not Sorry’ which is out January 2016…and I’m just seriously looking forward to that album and this is an incredible track.”
