You’re hit with the good news, but you're not sure if it’s true. “Well done Aurie! You got a show on BBC Radio London”…but is it real? I mean, this is the BBC, bro… I’m still shocked that I’ve got by this long building a career by making people laugh…not because I doubt my abilities, but purely because it never feels like a day’s work.

Surely there’s a catch or a loophole somewhere in this good news, right? Nope. It’s exactly what you’ve been told. And once I got the call, it was like all the graft leading up to this point had made sense.

Joining the BBC family as a personality is one of a few major steps in an entertainer’s career. It's a mixture of fun and growth in a short space of time. Walking into the office, learning the ropes and training to be the polished entity they see the potential to become. And my team, yo, my team… have been grafting to build this new project!

This new show will be about talent - upcoming and local, whilst showcasing a fresh perspective of the culture. To some degree, the new presenters of The Scene ourselves fall under that remit. Secretly, we are wild and energetic cannons on the loose, trying our best not to disrupt the calm and collected aura in the office. The irony is... that’s what the BBC Radio London team wants us to bring to the table.

There is a reason people have put years into the company - some of who myself and the new presenters will be taking the baton from every weekday. That reason for the longevity is something I’m to experience over time, but I’m gonna have fun seeking out the answer. Right now, for me… it’s the badge that swipes me in the building! Cheesy as it sounds, there is something cool about tapping my pass, and casually strolling in without having to sign in and wait for someone to escort me to the building.

I’ve joined a family with a legacy, and in turn have become a small part of that. I’m excited to get to work! It must be more than the badge…

Tune into my show on Monday, and find out what it could be!

Update: We caught up with Aurie straight after his first show. Here's what he had to say.
