Autumn so far has mostly been fine and mild. Surprisingly, both September and October have been drier than average, but there’s certainly a change on the way!
Monday night will be dry and clear with some mist and fog patches developing. We’ll have overnight lows of 6-10°C in towns and cities, with a bit more of a dip in temperature in the countryside – If you’re in a sheltered rural spot, there may be a touch of ground frost on Tuesday morning.
Mist and fog patches linger on Tuesday before brighter sunny spells become widespread for the rest of the day. There will be variable amounts of cloud and light winds, with temperatures between 11°C in Conwy and 14°C in Swansea, unfortunately marking the last of this fine spell.

The high pressure that’s been keeping things settled is pushed away on Tuesday night by fronts arriving from the Atlantic. This will bring the first significant rain for a while.
The change begins Tuesday night as cloud thickens from the north-west. It will be dry for a time, before the cloud brings with it a lift in wind and a band of rain. Nonetheless, it will be milder than recent nights with cloud cover keeping the temperatures around 8-12°C.

Pressure Chart for Wednesday 21 October
Wednesday morning will be wet and windy for a time, with the rain and drizzle clearing south eastwards throughout the day. It will remain blustery and cloudy, but warmer south westerly winds will bring milder temperatures, around 14-15°C.
Winds will remain on Thursday, but it will be a bit drier. Strong gusts are likely on exposed coasts, especially on Cardigan Bay. These winds are set to continue into Friday and the weekend as the weather remains unsettled. It could be dry for a time on Friday but there will be a chance of rain, which will disperse to showers from Saturday.

So unfortunately, the recent fine and settled spell is coming to an end and bringing with it more ‘typical’ autumn conditions. It will turn more unsettled from midweek onwards; with changeable conditions continuing into the weekend.
