Steven VX – Memo (To Myself)
Taken from Steven VX's 'Rocket 21 EP' (2015) - Released 18th April 2015
They Say: “Memo was always destined to be the opening track on Rocket 21. The track plays about with the idea of making decisions and unrequited love. I remember I was sitting down with my acoustic and suddenly started singing the first two lines of the song, and began striking a few chords. Instantly, I felt that adrenaline to keep writing and that punchy riff quickly turned into a catchy tune, with serious attitude. The song was debuted a few days later during my solo acoustic set supporting Penetration last year.
When I was doing the arrangement for the full-on electric version of the song featured on the EP - I wanted BIG guitars, a catchy chorus with a hook, and heavy drums and bass. That shaped the idea I had in my head when it came to me recording all the instruments and vocals, as well as mixing the track. 'Memo' encapsulates the sound of some of my favourite bands and influences including Anti-Flag, Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols.”
We Say: “Spikey young man with a fixation on Ulster punk, he was an extra in the Good Vibrations film and has supported most of the vintage acts from that scene. While most of previous recordings have been cover versions, his new Rocket 21 EP shows a deal of individual flair.”
