Serious injury halts Jersey Bulls Women match

Jersey Bulls Women’s match at Oxted and District was called off after a serious injury to a Jersey player.

Bulls’ Taylor Smythe broke her ankle inside the opening 15 minutes of the first half as she landed awkwardly after jumping to head the ball.

Smythe fractured her ankle in three places as well as dislocating the joint, with the match being abandoned around 30 minutes later as the teams waited for an ambulance.

Smythe was taken to hospital and is expected to undergo surgery on the injury.

"The moment it happens no one obviously cares about football for one second, all everyone cares about is that Taylor's alright," Jersey Bulls manager Chad Morris told BBC Sport.

"But I think we need to give a huge mention to Oxford and District Football Club for the support they showed us.

"They were fantastic from the moment it happened, and were were fortunate that two of their players, Amy and Sam are paramedics. They took control of the situation, gave Taylor all the care and attention she needed and kept everyone calm around what was a difficult situation."

A new date for Sunday's fixture in the Surrey Premier Division of the South East Counties Women's Football League will be announced in due course.
