Labour would have expected to be dominating the news this week, but its conference in Liverpool has been completely overshadowed by global events. That may not matter for Labour, because the polls are not showing a bounce for the Conservatives after their conference and Labour remain comfortably ahead. But Sir Keir Starmer's speech to the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool was nonetheless his big plea – a big pitch – for the big job. He could be Prime Minister by this time next year.
