Newshour

Available for over a year

Raphael Warnock has become the first African-American Democrat to win a Senate seat in the southern United States after winning a run-off election. He described himself as a proud American and son of Georgia. And he underlined the personal significance in talking about his mother, Verlene. "The other day, because this is America, the 82 year old hands that used to pick somebody else's cotton went to the polls and picked her youngest son to be a United States senator." Newshour's James Menendez spoke to Verlene Warnock. Was she very proud of her youngest son?
