Three generals offer their resignation in Sudan

Newsday

Available for over a year

Three of the most controversial figures on Sudan's ruling transitional military council have offered their resignations - one of the key demands of the protest movement. The three were seen as staunch Islamists and allies of the deposed president, Omar al Bashir. It follows talks between the military council and protest leaders, who are demanding a rapid handover to a civilian administration. The BBC's Catherine Byaruhanga in Khartoum explains how events unfolded. (Photo: Protesters in Khartoum. Credit: Reuters)
