'Cancer battle has given me a different outlook on golf'

Matt Southgate says having testicular cancer has given him a different outlook on his golf career and made it easier to enjoy the game. The 27-year-old, who had surgery to remove the cancer last year, finished fourth at the Irish Open on Sunday. Southgate said: "It has been a big rollercoaster for me, obviously with the health problems. I was just thrilled to get out there and managed to keep those emotions at bay until the end. When that last putt went in the cheer went up and the Irish crowd was just incredible. It was overwhelming." Asked whether the illness had changed his perspective on the game Southgate replied: "I still get very angry on the golf course when I hit bad shots because the game is so frustrating and I think all levels of golfers can appreciate that. But it is definitely easier to move on quicker, now I will have a bad hole and I will let that go almost straight away. So it has definitely helped, it is definitely easier to smile out on the course and enjoy it more." This clip is taken from 5 live sport on 24 May 2016.
