Campaigner says Tyson Fury causes problems for LGBT community

A petition for Tyson Fury to be removed from the BBC Sports Personality of the Year shortlist has now received over 60,000 signatures. The man who started the petition, Scott Cuthbertson, says the BBC shouldn't be putting Fury up as a role model as he causes problems for the LGBT community. "The type of things that he's saying about gay people [...] when he's a sporting role model, it causes people to be bullied, it causes self-esteem problems, and it puts up a barrier for LGBT people to take part in sport", Mr Cuthbertson said. The latest statement from BBC Sport says: Tyson Fury's victory and subsequent crowning as World Heavy Weight champion was widely covered by media outlets, and his inclusion on the shortlist is similarly in recognition of his sporting achievement, it is not in recognition of his personal views and it is up to the public who will win Sports Personality of the Year 2015.
