Tanzanian opposition calls for sanctions from exile in Belgium
In his first month since re-election, Tanzania's President John Magufuli has been urged to launch an independent investigation into allegations of killings and torture of opposition members and supporters following October's elections.
President Magufuli was declared the winner of the disputed election with 84% of the vote. His opponent, Tundu Lissu, leader of the Chadema party, fled to Belgium after being defeated.
He told Newsday why he is calling for the international community to impose sanctions on Magufuli's administration.
