Historic houses or beautiful prisons

In the southern states of the US, tours of historic antebellum houses tend to focus on the fine furniture and design. But things are changing, museums in cities like Charleston in South Carolina are now putting more emphasis on telling the stories of the enslaved people who laboured to keep the wealthy owners in a fashion they’d grown accustomed to. Lauren Northup is director of museums for the Historic Charleston Foundation.
