Police investigation after gunshot heard in street

An investigation is under way after police received reports of a firearm being discharged in Braunstone.

Leicestershire Police said it was called to Cort Crescent just before 22:30 BST on Tuesday following a report a gunshot was heard.

The force said armed officers were deployed and damage to a property which was "consistent with a firearm having been discharged" was found.

It added no one was injured and no arrests had been made.

Police added a scene preservation was in place and officers would be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.

Det Insp Nathan Paddison said: "Our investigation to understand the circumstances of this incident is in its early stages and I'd like to speak to anyone who can help.

"I'm particularly keen for witnesses who saw or heard anyone acting in a manner that seemed unusual or suspicious to get in touch. This includes anything that may have been captured on CCTV, a doorbell camera or a dashcam.

"Any information or footage you're able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could be important."
