Boy killed in crash had kindest heart, says mum

An 11-year-old boy who died after being struck by a lorry had "the kindest heart", his mother has said.

George Dennis was fatally injured close to a pedestrian crossing in Epping Road, Chipping Ongar, Essex, at 16:20 BST on 10 July.

The lorry driver, a 48-year-old man from Derbyshire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Emma Dennis said her son would be "loved forever, missed every single day and remembered always".

Tottenham Hotspur fan George played football for Ongar Juniors and was a pupil at the village's Moreton Primary School.

"George was a bright light in our lives. He had the kindest heart, a cheeky smile and a personality that was truly one of a kind," his mother said.

"He was full of life, always making people laugh and brought so much happiness to everyone who knew him."

She said George was about to leave primary school and felt "so excited for the next chapter of his life", adding he was a loyal friend and teammate.

More than £100,000 has been raised by members of the public for the family, who have been "overwhelmed" by the response.

George was affectionately known as "Twinkle Toes" by players at his football club.

"The pain of losing him is impossible to put into words, and we simply do not know how we will ever begin to heal as a family," Dennis continued.

"Our lives have changed forever and there will always be a space that can never be filled."

Dennis thanked people for their kindness and asked for privacy as the family grieved.

Drivers who were in the area when the collision happened have been urged by Essex Police to check their dashcams for any evidence.

The lorry driver was released on bail until September while detectives continued their investigation.
