Man sentenced for beer keg attack at police station

Daventry Police Station's front entrance has been boarded up

A man has admitted offences after a beer keg was used to damage the front entrance of a police station, forcing its closure to the public.

The attack on Saturday has left the front of Daventry Police Station in Northamptonshire with boards over its main entrance, and a defibrillator mounted on the building was also damaged.

A 34-year-old man, who Northamptonshire Police did not want to name, has pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal damage and two counts of attempted criminal damage.

Appearing at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Monday, he received a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for a year, as well being given a rehabilitation order and a fine of £2,772.

The front counter at Daventry has been temporarily closed while repairs are carried out.

Northamptonshire Police said anyone wishing to speak to an officer in person could go to one of the front counters at Campbell Square in Northampton, Weston Favell or Wellingborough.

Alternatively, any non-emergency incidents could be reported online by going to the Northamptonshire Police website or by calling 101.
