A man has been arrested after four people were taken to hospital following an alleged spiking incident at a New Year's Eve event.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called by paramedics who were treating several people who started feeling unwell at the event on the High Street in Glastonbury.

Officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and he remains in custody, the force added.

The four people who were taken to hospital have since been discharged.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: "We were called at 01:09hrs on Thursday 1 January to an incident in Glastonbury.

"We sent four double-crewed land ambulances, and an operations officer to the scene.

"We conveyed three patients by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital and one other patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital."
