Football club broken into after World Cup event

A Worcestershire football club said it has been targeted by "prepared and deliberate" thieves who broke into their stadium after a World Cup screening event.

Bromsgrove Sporting FC said it happened at its Birmingham Rd site on Sunday, the day after England triumphed over Norway in the World Cup quarter final.

Both Bromsgrove Sporting and the onsite restaurant, Hangry Moose, were "broken into" and were forced to close on Monday and Tuesday as a result, the club said.

West Mercia Police said its investigation was on-going.

A spokesperson for the football club said: "On Saturday we hosted a sold-out World Cup event with more than 800 people.

"On Sunday, following the event, Bromsgrove Sporting FC and Hangry Moose was broken into.

"The individuals responsible were prepared and deliberate. They attempted to disable our security. Because we hold backup systems, the incident was contained."

They continued: "We are a cashless, card-only business. There was no cash on site to take.

"The impact is limited to repair costs and lost trade while we are closed."
