Council apologises over missed waste collections

Residents have been asked to keep hold of waste until their next scheduled collection date

A council has apologised for failing to collect some household recycling after Christmas.
South Gloucestershire Council said the large amount of recyclable waste in need of collection meant its crews were unable to collect it all.
In a statement posted on social media, the council apologised for any inconvenience caused and asked residents to keep hold of their waste until their next scheduled collection day.
"If you have additional recycling at your next collection, you can put this out with your recycling boxes," it added.
It said people can leave additional waste out in containers or in tied plastic bags.
"Please make sure any additional materials are sorted, as mixed recycling cannot be safely collected from plastic bags," it added.
People can also take household waste to recycling centres in Mangotsfield, Thornbury and Yate, the council said.
In response to the issues, some affected residents have called for a partial council tax refund.
"I paid my council tax up to date and I expect my refuse to be emptied on time with no excuses please," Chris Hinshelwood said in a comment on the council's social media post.
Others raised concerns about storing food waste.
Abi Freeman wrote: "My food bin is full, where am I meant to be storing this food waste? Why should the houses due a collection Wednesday miss out?"
Vicky Starling added: "Food waste is full. Recycling boxes are full - and we have to do another week?
"Black bin is filling up as there is nowhere else to put the rubbish."
However, others were quick to praise crews for their work over the Christmas and New Year period.
"[I] can't understand why people moan about collections being late over this period," Glyn Jones wrote.
"There's more waste to collect and the trucks can only take a certain amount of waste. Just bear with it, these guys are doing a great job and the weather is not kind to them either."
