BBC Online Briefing: June 2014

Hello, I’m Matthew Postgate and I am the Controller of Research & Development at the BBC.

This afternoon the BBC Radio Theatre in London W1 is the setting for our sixth BBC Online Briefing. We’re very much looking forward to meeting those digital partners and suppliers who are coming along and sharing some ideas about the BBC’s digital strategy.

The event is already at capacity but we’ll make sure videos of all of the presentations are made available via this blog from next week. You will also be able to keep up with news and photos posted live from the sessions via the BBC Internet blog's Twitter account and the hashtag #bbconline.

The day begins with a keynote speech from Ralph Rivera, Director of Future Media, in which he’ll outline some of the projects we’ve been working on, the exciting summer of events we have ahead and our strategy beyond this.

BBC R&D and Connected Studio will both be taking to the stage to explain the different ways they work with the industry and to talk about some of the opportunities suppliers and partners will have in the year ahead.

The BBC is in a privileged position in terms of gaining insight about audience behaviour, and our Marketing and Audiences team is excited to share some of this with you, discussing the future of linear TV based on their recent findings.

Our external guest, Dave Birss, is an accomplished speaker specialising in creativity, innovation, and technology. He’ll be tackling the question of how to commission and create content in a digital age, taking into account the increasing array of devices and viewing options now available to the public.
