Strength – I like Compressions

Thursday 29th October 2015

They say: “'I like Compressions'  is a conversation,a short play between boy and girl, I was inspired by the album 'Songs for Drella' by Lou Reed and John Cale, there are conversational songs on this album sang by either John or Lou (no duets) the idea always stuck with me,schizophrenic, dry and playful,I love the songs on that album. Bass and drums are the primal parts of any song and I saw no reason to add much more since this was a song of longing and desire"

We say: “Wonky robo-pop from Derry and Donegal. Featuring bits of Red Organ Serpent Sound and Nyt Bloomer and reviving the old charm of decaying technology, with amusing cod-European accent. Ask your dad about his VHS collection of Rapido TV shows and search the vaults for Thomas Dolby and Trio singles".

First played on Across the Line in August 'I Like Compressions' came to our attention via a live video, which appeared earlier that month.
